GRAY LINE ACROSS SCREEN

Post by anniedance » May 23rd, 2010, 2:08 pm

RE: IPOD CLASSIC 5TH GENERATION

There is a gray line expanding the screen with what looks like a burn hole on the right hand of the screen.
What could be cause of this?

Thanks,

A new LCD will most likely fix the problem for both of you. A gray line across the screen is most likely a permanent problem with the LCD. Very annoying. I had one like that too, and a new LCD fixed it. What causes it? Maybe some pressure was applied to the screen at some point, but not enough to crack it. Maybe it's a reliability issue. If you're good fixing things, you can get a new LCD on eBay pretty cheap, or you can have RR do it for you. There are videos on the web showing an iPod Video teardown. LCD replacement is not quite as bad as a logic board replacement, but almost.
