IPOD video 5gen went from 30gig to 16 gig..HELP

ok.. i've searched everywhere to see if anyone else has had this problem but no luck...
heres the issue, not to long ago my ipod went dead "got stuck on the logo when restarting".. so i left it as lost..
it remain on my desk for about 2 months when i decided to try it again.. sad face came on so i restored it and everything works again.. the only issue i have is that now it says that i only have 16 gigs available when it is a 30gig ipod..
i filled it up but, after i hit the 16 gig it tells me i have no more space.. when before i had 21gigs of music and video's..
how can i get the lost gigs back...
any suggestions...thanks

Have you tried restoring it?

Yup.. Restored it, reformated it, re-installed it, update itn changed the firmware... Don't know what else to do.. I just don't understand how it can go from 30gigs to 16.1 gigs to be exact.. Any other suggestions
