PS3 will not read game disc

I have a 60 GB PS3 console that started acting up in the middle of an online game. It appears to no longer read the game as the disc icon that shows up when it is inserted into the system and you are in the GAME menu is no longer there. The game does not play of course, and you can usually hear and see it accessing the hard drive when it is loading the game. Now nothing happens, except the SONY store bag is at the bottom of both the video and the game menus. I am speculating that it is the laser drive or the blue ray drive, but need the so called expert to tell me which one it is. Both are available components for sale on E-bay, just need to know which one is the cause of the symptoms I have just described.

The older 60 gb console has the single eye kem 400 laser.
That is most likely the part that has failed in your system.
