Upgrading 4G hard drive from 40GB to 80GB?

My 4G finally died on me and I bought the appropriate tools and opened the iPod.

My original drive was the MK4004GAH -

1. Is the MK8007GAH? 80 50 Pins 8 the largest that I can upgrade to now?Are the voltage levels suitable for it? I can’t see any obvious differences.

2. The rapid repair site mentions only the MK6006GAH 60GB as an upgrade - is this the limit?

3. My third question is – is there any other 1.8″ 50 pins 8mm drive with this voltage that is higher – say around 100 to 160 GB that I can use to upgrade?

4. Can I use the slimmer versions of the hard drive 5mm instead of 8mm and use padding instead of replacing the thicker case with a thinner case?

While you can effectively hook up almost any size HD to the iPod with some modifications, the 60GB is the largest you can hook up with no mods. And as far as I know, the larger 5mm HD's are still not compatible in this unit. Give us a call if you have additional questions/concerns. Thank you!

I believe he can fit the MK8006gah inside the 4th gen Ipod, problem is these drives are hard to find and expensive. This is the only 80gb that will fit he 4th gen. When I had my 4th gen I took one from a used notebook
