GPS Not Functional After Screen Repair

Postby TomA » November 30th, 2008, 2:00 pm

I replaced a cracked screen on my iPhone G3 and it works perfectly, except....

Ever since I replaced the screen, the "real" GPS has stopped functioning. (Cell tower "fake" GPS still works.)

The GPS was working even after the screen cracked. I have installed MotionX-GPS Lite and it reports "no signal". The lack of GPS signal is the only symptom...in fact it took me almost a week to notice that it didn't work.

When I was putting the screen back together, I think I put a lot of stress on one of the connector cables. I didn't realize that it had it had to feed through the slit inside the phone, and two of them got tangled. I'm not sure if that is the issue or not. It seems unlikely unless one of those cables is an "antenna connector".

Any ideas?

I can't say for sure without looking at the phone what could be the issue, but to use our service you would have to send it in. Look here: http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/ipod-repair-services.html and give us a call if you have additional questions. Thank you!

Can you recommend an inexpensive GPS system that could be used for both geocaching and navigation? Please note if any additional upgrades have to be bought to add navigation. I could most likely get by with little detail at the city level. I would just like to know how far it is between towns when driving, etc. Also would like to try a little geocaching. A GPS unit for me is a luxury, so I don't want to blow a lot of money on it.

The repair does not hamper the GPS. I did my repair and my GPS was behaving like yrs too. for a while like you I too thought I had messed up one of the cables. But no, all you need to do is this :
1. Navigate to Settings > General > Reset on your iPhone 3G
2. “Reset All Settings”

The same happens to me.
After replace the screen glass of my iphone 3G, everything is working fine except the GPS.
Now rarely gets a good signal, always with week signal or no signal at all.
I've tried the suggestion of reseting settings and the problem still persist.
If anyone have any idea to fix this please I woul be very apreciate,
Thank you very much
