Samsung HS12YHA compatibility?

Post by John Stimson » June 2nd, 2011, 1:57 pm

I would like to know if the Samsung Spinpoint N3A drives will work in an iPod 5G ("video"). The Samsung HS12YHA looks like a nice, cost-effective upgrade. 120GB, 5mm thickness (no need for the fat-back), and lower power consumption. Assuming that it works with the 5G iPod. I have consulted the compatibility chart at the top of this forum, and it is not listed as either compatible or incompatible.

It is not on our compatibility list simply because we have not tested that particular drive. To that end, I'm not sure if that drive is compatible with the 5th Gen iPod Video... Maybe another user on this forum can enlighten us after they read this post?

I bought an HS12YHA. It works in my early 5th-gen 30GB iPod.

Old thread I know, but I just installed an hs12yha into a 30GB 5.5 gen. The drive worked fine without even needing to format. Just installed it and restored through iTunes. The only downside I can see so far is that it takes considerably longer to sync the same 22GB of music than it did with the original drive. Aside from that everything works as it should.
