I just took my Nano to the Apple store. The tech looked in the headphone jack and said there is a moisture sensor that turns pink when it gets wet. It was PINK! He said that the battery gets disconnected when it gets wet to prevent damage.
My nano works fine as long as it is plugged in. Unplug it, it goes dead.

I purchased a new hard drive from you and installed it in my ipod. When I connect it to my computer the ipod displays the sad face icon and itunes does not recognize it.
