Upgrading 4G hard drive from 40GB to 80GB?

My 4G finally died on me and I bought the appropriate tools and opened the iPod.

My original drive was the MK4004GAH -

1. Is the MK8007GAH? 80 50 Pins 8 the largest that I can upgrade to now?Are the voltage levels suitable for it? I can’t see any obvious differences.

2. The rapid repair site mentions only the MK6006GAH 60GB as an upgrade - is this the limit?

3. My third question is – ...

New Ipod Video Logic Board: Does Anyone Know Why..

these motherboards are shipped with the 'click wheel ground strap' cut off? Most of the 'ground strap' is there except for the tab that should extend beyond the board and be affixed to the frame.

I have purchased 2 of these motherboards recently and both have arrived in this condition.

I have learned that I must strip the 'click wheel ground strap' off the old motherboard and apply it to the new logic board.

What's ...

Are classic parts interchangeable

I have a old 5 G video ipod that originally had a 30gb hard drive in it. Everything but the hard drive and the LCD is good. What I'm hoping to find out, is there any possibility that I could buy and put a newer ipod classic, 80gb hard drive in it's place, or will it not work with the 30gb logic board? Thanks....

3G iPod upgrade to 40GB vs. refurb 4G 40gig?

I recently bought a car with factory stereo iPod integration (Volvo S80 V8). To my delight, I found it works perfectly with my "spare" 20 gig 3G iPod. The downside is that this is my spare iPod because my collection is 25GB and I can only squeeze on about 18GB worth of music.

I'd like to get the whole collection on there. Does it make more sense to upgrade the 3G to 40GB with a ...

60GB 5g ipod upgraded to 240gb performance

I have upgraded my 60gb ipod to 240gb and love it. I seem to get 15=17 hours of battery life with audio playback. Most of my files are 192kps aac. I have tried to hack it with rockbox but rolled back because transfer under rockbox was way too slow (1-2mb throughput). I was wondering what other people have experienced with this upgrade.

MK8010GAH drive: compatible with 5G Video? (Not 5.5G)

Hello,

the drive on my 60G 5G Video iPod is slowly dying. Since I want to replace it, I thought I could upgrade the storage capacity at the same time; 80G drives seem to hit the price/storage sweet spot. I have seen Toshiba MK8010GAH drives advertised on eBay, but here's my problem. One seller claims:
This will fit in any 60/80GB 5th/5.5 Generation iPod Video.

While another seller warns that their MK8010GAH drive is
for ...

Do you think this can be repaired? Please help!

My ipod touch came into contact with some water while it was on. Now when I turn it on the screen is very dark. Touch screen doesn't work at all. On the apple website it says that water damaed ipod touches are supposed to have a red dot in the ear phone jack (or something like that) but mine doesn't have that. I think the wifi may be messed up too because when I turn ...

Hello All...

I am new to this forum, but not new to the ipod family. I collect Ipods, after a few years of stubbornly refusing to own one. Now I own at least 10 (not including shuffles). I've taken inventory of them, and with the help of this site as well as others, ive become a little more confident now that I know how to crack them open.
Ive tried what I could to consolidate any repairs ...

i-Pod 5th Generation stopped working!

I have a 5th generation i-Pod video that I have had since 2005. Just recently it stopped working out of the blue. While I was browsing around the internet on different forums I have found that it could be the battery or the motherboard. The i-Pod is not responsive to anything when I plug it into the computer or into the wall charger. I understand that Rapid Repair buys i-Pods in any condition. Is there ...
